Title: upgrades for better burnouts?
Post by: TJ Kollmeyer on November 14, 2015, 10:58:18 pm
Hi, i have a 1983 Chevy k10 with a 5.7L 350 swap on the turbo 300 3 speed automatic trans. it has 6 inches of suspension lift and 33" superswampers.

I have recently done some upgrades since i got the truck, such as adding an edlebrock performer intake and a holley 600 carb, but the truck also has
 -accel supercoil ignition coil
 -mild comp cam
-dual exhaust w/ long tube headers
 -few other random things
 -aftermarket air cleaner
 -valve covers / breathers

The main thing im wondering is what i can do now to make my truck do burnouts, because it barely has enough tires to brake torque as it is, sometimes it will, most times itll just scream really loud but not spin the tires. What upgrades can i do now to make the truck spin the tire(s) consistently?(http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/14/0753ca001288104d467c4a2cb858ff5c.jpg)

What camshaft are you using? (Lift, duration, lobe separation)?

Get a line lock.

Doing burnouts in a heavy 4x4 truck is not a good idea as you will end up breaking something.

But if you insist .. a line lock will be your best bet.

a little oil will help, better yet put it in low with front hubs unlocked

When I was younger I had an 85 model with 35's on it, also a built 400 small block and 3 speed trans.. Smoked the tires first time...second sheared all my universal joints clean.....< lesson learned lol

Why would you want to do burnouts in a lifted truck with bigger mud tires on it? Makes no sense to me, seems like if you wanted to do burnouts you'd build a street truck not a mud truck.

We were all young once.
Before I bought my 81 step side off a friend of mine, I have great memories of him doing donuts in it with the smoke pouring off the 44" Super Swampers.
Ujoints can be replaced, memories last forever.

Gearing is your answer. with the larger tires your engine has to work harder, by gearing it you will get your acceleration back, and the torque can be applied better to break loose those bologna's!

Lower gears and put a vice grip on the flexible rear brake line. Put something smooth under the jaws.

AKA.... Redneck line lock.
But gears, gears gears! I have no problem smoking my 35's and I only have 3.73's in the rear. Granted the extremely low first gear of the 700r-4 helps a lot to. I'm not that young anymore so bills and 4 kids keep me from doing this to often however the third day I was down here in GA I took the kids on their first ever mud ride but no water over 3ft bc I'm not so sure we are allowed to be where we were.

for some reason my 91 crew with only 28s wouldnt do a burn out with the 350 and still wont with the cummins. i imaging it due tot he rear brakes being improperly adjusted

i did get her to do burn outs but only after putting her in 4 low with the front hubs unlocked. but if that doesnt work oil will always do the job lol

Good thinking, a guy here in Mass has been on the news for the last few weeks for getting arrested for trespassing while off roading on private property.
He hot his jeep stuck in the mud 4 wheeling along the power line roads. The tow company gave him a bill for $48k (that's right, forty eight thousand dollars for the tow). The tow company claims it was a dangerous job on private property, trying to justify the bill. The state towing authority is now investigating the situation.
Google "jeep 48k tow job" and read all about it.
Be careful where you go off road.

i don't agree with what you are wanting to do, but to answer the question, as IA pointed out,  corn oil.

Sounds like it's winch plate time. That's why I had the kids with me. I drive and do things a lot diffrent with passengers than when it's just my life in my hands.

Note to self:

If ever get the desire to 4-wheel on public land, register vehicle in shelf-corporation beforehand.   ;)
