Title: New 76 c10
Post by: zay580 on November 20, 2015, 06:58:35 am
Hi everyone i recently just purchase a 76 c10 last week for a good price ($350). I thought it was a great deal only thing wrong with it was engine lock up and 3 bad rust spots. I just wanted some opinions on the truck because I feel like I'm in over my head a little. Never dealt with a vehicle that has rust damage . here is a few pictures.

I love it! Great restoration project and a good year!  Is that the earth i see through the floor? No worries. Keep us posted. If you have a garage, time and a little money now and then, i would do a full frame-off restoration. Get her back to a complete brand new factory look. Or get a loan for 25k and have it done by a good shop.  Or, just bare minimum and get her on the road, then it will be a "whole" truck.

Ok in all honesty I feel a better cab could be found. The cowl under windshield will need a lot of metal work and welding. I would say if you are willing you could just get a can that still needs floor and rocker work,   The rest of the truck looks good.

Oh and check over the frame good, wouldn't want a bad frame to stop you on your tracks

I totally agree with kaiser about the frame.  Remember the "integrity"" of the vehicle is the main thing, you can always build off of that.

Any year cab 1973 to 1980 used the one piece hood, after that, the hood hinges were mounted in the cowl area, I'm not 100% sure on other differences, but the hood should be the biggest difference the cabs

talk a look at the firewall poke around with a screw driver see if you can find more weak spots. from what you posted its not too bad but there might be more damage along the window channel. and if memory serves me right there should be a drain hole on the bottom corner of the window under the rubber seal. when this hole gets clogged this is the outcome. we have some body repair guys who get on from time to time they will give their input also

Your best bet is a different cab assuming the frame is solid.
Repairs on that cab will be endless.
