Title: How to hook up detent cable on my 79
Post by: CSflyer on November 27, 2015, 09:44:20 am
Hello everyone! Over the summer I sold my 95 pickup and finally bought my favorite truck body style. I've had a few 90s trucks but am just familiarizing myself with the older trucks. The specs on my truck are:

1979 GMC Sierra K15 originally a 350/350 now it has a 1966 327 with 58cc heads, Edelbrock Performer intake, and Edey 650 4BBL, and the original but rebuilt TH350 (not a lockup trans).

It didn't have a detent or kick down cable (whichever you call it) when I bought it and I'd like to hook one back up. I've never seen how or where exactly it physically hooks up to the trans and carb so I'm starting from square one with nothing to go off of. Do I need a bracket at the carb? Where does the cable attach at the trans? Rock Auto lists a 40" and 45" cable, which is correct? Any info you could throw my way will help, thanks guys!

This maybe not exactly the same as a 350 because i think the caprices had 2004r's or 700rs but it's very similar.

Sorry it took so long, but go to page 19, to the picture in the middle of the page and enlarge:
