Anyone have a pic on how the factory jack is set up, mounted under the hood on the pass wheel well. Do they sell aftermarket jack assys?
-
I don't have a picture of it, but on my truck, the factory jack is located on the driver's side wheel well. And it's still there! Although the handle for it is missing. It mounted on the passenger's side fender behind the coolant overflow bottle and the lug wrench was behind the battery.

As far as I know the GM trucks switched the under-hood jack location to the drivers side in 1985. Sad that I know these facts...
If you need a picture of my 1984 jack in place I can take it for you. I had to use it a couple of weeks ago and surprisingly it worked well and got the job done.

Still have the original in my '76.

Excellent, my jack's foot is flat to the battery so the 84 is different.
-
Mine is just like the 76! Thanks,,now i just need to find a good one.
-
I just bought one from a guy on craigslist that was out of a K5. $40. Probably could get it cheaper from junkyard, but its so cold and muddy... :'( :'(
-
Yes, getting cold and nasty for the junkyards.

Thanks that picture, helped me too.
I have all the loose parts from the salvage yard just wasn't clear on how they should are installed.

I'll send a pic of mine, all thats there is the instruction sticker and a couple of clamps or something. Hopefully somone can tell me what i need.
-
The pic I posted may not be 100% right, but it's the best way I could figure to get it all mounted there. I replaced that inner fender well about 10 or 11 years ago when I bought the truck from my aunt, because it was roached (battery had turned over years before and eaten it up beyond repair). So I just used the pre-cut holes in the fender and mounted it the best I could...and it works. :)

Ok, well here is what i have. Not sure how it goes.

Ok, so what are those two "L" shaped things for? I have never seen a FACTORY jack set up in a 73-87, so I don't know. Does anyone have a pic of the same set-up as me, only with the factory jack there? No modifications/alterations. Assembly line stock only. Thanks,,
-
You already have your answer. I looked at the picture and the arrow of the thru bolt/l-bracket under the factory jack.
-
Ok, the arrows help. Thanks.
-
Update, think i found a couple of jack parts, still missing something...

almost there just missing the tie downs and the lug wrench
-
Lug wrench shouldnt be too tough. Have to hit a junk yard for those tie- downs though.
-
ive used my lug wrench a couple times but im not sure how but i have bent it :-[ i might have used a grunt more than what i should have
-
Its tough to bend a tire iron! Musta been some rusty bolts!!
-
Or someone got overenthusiastic with the air gun and torqued them down too hard! I had that happen to me on a 98 Silverado I used to have and wound up bending the factory lug wrench! And I'm not a big strong guy! Lol! Because I was out in the middle of nowhere at the time with no cellphone coverage, I had to flag down a forest ranger to use his radio to call me a tow truck! All because I couldn't get the sixth lug nut off to change my flat! :(
