Title: Hood fitting problems too on my 76 Stepside C10

This is a wild problem!  I bought a brand new hood.  Had it painted, and guess what, it did not fit.  I bought new hinges.  Still sits too high in back.  Am probably going to file the hinge rear slots longer at the top, so I can get them to go lower.  Really irks me!  Would rather spend time putting my new air-suspension kit on the stepside.  There seems to be no "normal" solution to fit a hood.  Thanks for all your insight though.  Will keep working on it.

If it is an aftermarket hood and not an actual GM OEM then you might not be able to make it fit perfectly. I just bought a new aftermarket hood for my Camaro and it doesn't fit very well either.

So You didnt fit the hood on the truck before you painted it??

You have to be Very careful with aftermarket parts, they dent REALLY easy, and they dont always fit like originals, you have to do all the fitting and check all the holes and whatnot before you do any painting or fabrications or anything like that to them, cause you might need to try another part if it doesnt fit correctly.

If you paint that part, or cut something off, and it ends up not fitting correctly, your screwed.

Have chatted with a couple body shops.  Appears that I need to make the hole slots longer in the hinges to get a proper fit.  You sure are right about getting hood to fit "before" you paint it.  But, I am learning and this is the hard way.

LoL, thats all good man, as long as you Aren learning, and you will be able to make it fit, there is no harm done. Hope everything works out for you.

Check first to make certain the rear of the hood is not hitting the rear "bumpers" that are screwed into the top of the cowl.  If it is, then slotting the hinges will do no good.

Yes, I have already done that.  Also checked to see if K&N filter was hitting hood.  Am going to enlarge/elongate slots on hinges and see how that works.
