Hey guys I have a 81 k25 with a 350 4bbl, was running good aside from the odd hard start and the idle wouldn't always kick down. Took a 600km trip never had an issue running etc.
Now I go to turn it over and it just keeps cranking, it fires only if you put gas in the carb....
I've cleaned the carb, no luck there.
I'll be replacing the fuel filter next hoping that's the culprit.

fuel pump?.......unhook line from carb.........have a buddy turn it over........get a bottle to catch gas, if there is any.......if no gas.....replace pump

Had the exact same problem. Fuel was not coming from line while turning engine over ended up just needing a new 5 buck fuel filter and it was fixed.

have you checked for another fuel filter in the line under the truck or in the carb?
-
Update- seems the culprit is the carb itself, im moving in 10 days so im not attempting to rebuild right now but instead pipe in a stock rochester 4 BBL....
Now to look up where all the extra ports go to....

im voting fuel pump not priming on this one - she'll start with gas and keep running awhile or sometimes not

i just ran into this problem with my mud truck. last year she didnt really want to run and today i just got around to prepping her for the mud bog this weekend. well im not getting any fuel to the fuel filter before the carb so its either a fuel pump problem or tank. im betting fuel pump so i went to NAPA and got a universal fuel pump $50 :'( its a 4-7 psi so then ill put a boat gas tank in the truck and run that

I tested it by taking the line off and putting it directly over the barrels and it did flow gas through, started for a few seconds and then died

Make sure the fuel inlet nut filter isn't installed backwards. It may have debris plugging the seat or a stuck needle valve.
