So the local tire shop has some 33s for cheap now I heard I can fit those stock from one guy but from another that I need a lift. Its a 4wd 1985 k10

Depends on your wheel offset. What size 33"s? If you do opt for 33"s you should probably add a leaf

There's no yes or no answer for whether 33's work, it depends on quite a few factors. Generally 31's will fit with no issue. If your springs are still in good shape, and you're using stock backspacing (4"), and you don't do anything that articulates your suspension alot (ie rock crawling).
With 33's you run the chance of the tires rubbing against the fender wells, especially if you're climbing over something while your wheels are turned

There is no magic formula for running 33's on a stock suspension. As stated above, the biggest variable is the condition of the front springs, and unfortunately I know of no way to find out to determine that prior to just seeing how they work. Wheel width and back spacing matter. Stick with a narrow wheel and 4" of back spacing and you might get lucky. You'll find plenty of examples of folks running 33's on stock suspension all over the net, and I've done it many times myself. Once even with 33x12.50's, but not for long. I've had much better success with narrow 33's like 33x10.50's or 255x85x16's, but they are getting hard to find.

im running 33s on my k30 and before you say "its a heavy duty suspension" also take note that i have a cummins under the hood that probably weights 1000 lbs with 5 gallons of oil and all the accessory. now compare that to a sbc thats what 500 lbs?

but i wanted something with a lot of power for towing and that got decent millage. course i could have gone with the 6.2 or 6.5 but the I6 is what i was turned on by. it was a design that worked so good it lasted 30 years, and the 1st gens you only need one wire (minus the starter) to run it. if i ever do one again or if i change something on my truck it will be to have a stick, it feels like im loosing a lot of power with this transmission and dealing with the TC.
