I know I would, or at least have to seriously consider it.
-
I probably would.
-
How is the body on it? Is it a running & driving truck? A few years ago when scrap was $250 a ton far to many old trucks around here went to the crusher.
Are you going to buy it?
I wouldn't mind adding a trailering special to my fleet.
That would be a great tow rig.
-
One thing i noticed, i think this is truly how the original air clnr assy on my truck looked.
If anything i would love to buy it and strip it totally and inventory for parts, clean up nice and keep for future use. Since it's all factory. Maybe i'll offer a low ball price. I am not sure if it starts or drives. Little rusty underneath. Amazing even underneath is all stock, factory spare tire carrier and everything.
-
I never heard if a "trailering special" have you??
-
I've heard of the trailering special before.
It would make a great parts truck like you said.
You could store the parts that you want for future use and sell off the rest.
I'm guessing that's a 350 4 bolt main that would bring a few hundred $$.
-
From the looks of the hood, there's probably a lot of sheet metal being held together by paint. Salt country ?
-
Look at the firewall to cowl seam in the engine bay, it's blowing out rust that means water in the cab and at your feet when raining.
Probably a rust bucket other than what you can see.
Would be a huge project to restore.
Would probably be a great beater truck if you need one, than parts truck if it gives you trouble.
-
nice find looks rusty but the long body sure is cool, don't think i've ever seen a trailering special
-

yes, salt country. i'll offer $200.
-
whats the 3+3 mean?
-
Two seats 6 passengers.
The crew cabs were available without the rear seat.
-
A Trailering special was for heaving towing. Added leaf springs in the rear, over load springs sometimes, bigger radiator, big transmission, probably a TH400 if it's an automatic. Heavy duty tires, heavy duty brakes, those towing mirrors, trailer wiring provisions. Stuff like that that you would use when towing alot of weight. You can see in the picture of the emblem that it has a GVWR of 10,000 lbs.
My Camper Special came with a heavy duty 3 core radiator, TH350 trans, 350 small block 4 bolt main, heavy duty brakes and power steering, 9 leafs springs in the rear, 14 bolt full floater axle, trailer wiring provisions and a GVWR of 8,200 lbs.
Big blocks were also available with Trailer and Camper Specials as well as manual transmissions.

yes, salt country. i'll offer $200.
$200 is a slap in the face. That truck is worth $500-600 easily

I agree.
I sell my fair share of stuff on craigslist. If I was selling that truck for $1000 and someone offered me $200, I would counter offer with $1800. That gets my point across.

Back in the day, early 70's, we had a 53 1 & 1/2 ton GMC 4wd with a PTO in it. It was a hunting lease truck with a straight six, 4 speed, 20 inch tires and duals in the rear etc. Pop decided to sell it and Bro in Houston had it at his house. Pop wanted $1000 for it and some dude called about buying just the transfer case. Bro said yeah the transfer case could be bought for $1000. The guy said " but you want a $1000 for the whole truck. I just want the TC" Bro said yeah but we also want $1000 just for the TC.....wish I had the truck now......
-
Ok, maybe 500 then.

This truck is STILL 4 sale. $1500, is that a fair price? Always wanted a parts truck. I thought it was $1000, or mayby he'll take that anyway.
-
Sounds good to me, ide pick it up for that price
-
you do mean 500 right??? thats all i would offer due to the rust. i mean if the doors are ok you might be able to sell them for 200 (you can buy electric for 75/each)
-
Lots of rust, good parts truck though, all oem. It starts and runs i'm told. I can drive it home.
-
you can drive a lot of things home. but will it pass inspection? and is it worth trying to save? even that 74 i was looking at if i couldnt cover the initial cost with good parts and know what it was going to be i wouldnt touch it.
-
Yah, perhaps your right, but there are a few parts i really want from it, some hard to find stuff.
Besides, with that clunker parked here, my property will look a little "red-neckish" lol
-
OK not to hijack but i stumbled across this trucks doppelganger, ok not exactly the same but real close. Anyone got any good numbers? i need to win the lottery lol

Thats pricy.
-
That guy is crazy, asking triple of what that old truck is worth. The SWB C10s are getting so hard to find and pricey, that I think alot of guys with the less then desirable lWB trucks are trying to jump on the train and ask crazy prices. My dad and I recently purchased really nice LWBs for $600 and $400, and you wouldnt believe house nice my dad's 84 is, only bad that it is the 305.
-
Well i just found out the latest, the owner sent me a txt to see if i was still interested. He may want it off his property. So i'm thinking either free or up to $500. I could sure use some parts from it. I wish i had a place to put it, trying to get vile to take it, maybe i can get a finders fee. lol
-
find out what your local scrap prices are. chances are he knows what its worth in scrap offer a tad over. if i found the right info your prices are $70 gross ton. so that crew cab might be 5500lbs??? so the scrap price might be 171ish?
-
Thanks, waiting to hear from the owner.
-
Scrap in Ma is $60 a ton.
Hopefully Vile takes it, he could have it restored in a week.
If Vile doesn't want it, let me know.
Maybe I can add it to my square body graveyard. I have 10 there now (mostly CUCV's), this could be next.
-
Ok, will let you know.
-
What parts are you looking to save off of it for your truck?
-
It has the original oem air cleaner assy. that i need, pre heater tube, but more or less mostly parts i would just like to have more than need, for possible future use. Oh, and one or the tail light trim rings.
