Ok I have a 80 bench seat here and I was trying to move the leaver when it broke!!! Can I use just some steel wire???

I had mine out to install new carpet and oiled all the metal working parts. Did some wire repair also. Any hard wire will work, just make sure you connect the same way.  Dont want any hang-ups. (Snags).
