I have been trying to see what people have done for the shift boot on these trucks-I have two ripped sets from previous trucks and am wondering if any one has gone aftermarket with them; or even custom? kind of looking for ideas before I just cut a hole in the floor-I don't know if I should invest in a reproduction considering they don't seem to last.

Do a google search, they can be found easy. They might even have them here, I haven't looked.

I must not be searching right. And a lot of the pics that show up are for the overdrive tranny or 5- speeds.

I don't remember anything special about a Chevy shifter boot for a sm465. Mine has one, it works, and it's reasonably new. It's just a piece of accordion folded rubber. It has a small round top hole and a oval-ish bottom opening that goes under a trim plate unless yours is different somehow. The shift boot should be very similar from 73-87 or even later as long as the 465 was. One place, but not the only place I found them- Google> shifter boot 30-1931

What I kept finding is the square style, so yes I would like the oval base, I would just like to know I can actually get one before cutting the hole round and not being able to get a round one. I'll check that number in a minute

Yes, that would be the right thing to do. Although I'm sure he's busy and doesn't have the time. Don't we all have some experience with that? Lol!

Don't think it's available here

Yeah, figured it wasn't available here.
Think I might try to make a leather boot, I have the sewing machine and extra leather. That would give me a lot of control over hole size in floor(meaning once I cut the hole I don't need to worry about it being wrong shape or size)
