I have both pieces of aluminum. And want to know if any one has taken the "mounting strip" on the back side off the pick up and put it in the blazer strip. The origional one is a lot taller and seams eased to mount. Or would it be easier to just faint correct sized boltsthat wouldn't also dent outer aluminum?
-
Ok, if you are trying to do what I think you are, it's pretty easy. So, correct me if I'm wrong here.
You want to take a blazer outer aluminum tailgate trim off of its mounting piece and then put it on the mounting piece for a pickup to then mount it on a pickup?
Also, what year are the pieces from each truck the trim panels are off of?

Yes exactlyy. And sorry been berry busy for a few months. Tail gate is a 76 and aluminum strip is off a 73 blazers. The bolt holes line up. But the blazer strip backing plate withe the mounting bolts are much shorter. Is it possable to swap the backing plates from the pick up aluminum to. The blazed one.

Yes it should be possible to swap pieces. Can you post a few pics of the parts, front and back of each. Then I can tell for sure if you can. The 70s trim pieces are different than the 80's trim so I wanted to see what you have.

I have to get em out of grave will do that in the morning. And post thanks for the reply. And help.
-
No problem. I know it can be done with the 80's pieces so just to make sure what they look like I can tell you if it can be done with the 70s pieces.

Are you relocating your tailgate handle?
-
Yes moving it inside. Well them. Going to make it a duel Handel setup. Using door Handel's reset into the inside sheet metal.
-
Are you using factory handles or donors from another vehicle or home made?
-
Door handles from some rotted out doors a fiend had. We did it on his tailgate, and worked well will take Alot of picks and post as it comes togeter.
