I'm making an attempt on redoing my drum brakes. I tore both sides out early this summer, and am just now getting around to putting them back in. I threw everything away and am paying for it now (literally). I need to know if I need the parking brake strut and spring? Its the flat bar that connects the shoes just under the wheel cylinder.

should be in the brake hardware kit
the "all in one kit"
http://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-traction-control/brake-drum-all-in-one-kit-rear/duralast-brake-drum-all-in-one-kit-rear/chevrolet/k20-3-4-ton-p-u-4wd/1986/8-cylinders-m-5-7l-4bl/34488_72206_5153/?checkfit=true
which isnt all in one
then the "self adjusting kit"

You will need the strut bars and springs for the e-brake to function. Left and right sides use the same part number: Dorman 21147 (http://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-traction-control/brake-drum-bar/dorman-brake-drum-bar/439112_0_0/?checkfit=true) for 11.15" brakes; 21152 (http://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-traction-control/brake-drum-bar/dorman-brake-drum-bar/439117_0_0/?checkfit=true) for 13" brakes.
