I hate this

We call that a light dusting.
2 feet+ overnight requires some attention.

That's how it's looked here several different times this winter! We got spoiled with the mild winters we've had the last few years. Two + feet on the ground here used to be the norm! There's probably around a foot on the ground outside my house right now. Nothing that my old truck can't handle though!

What's all that white stuff you guys are taking about, here in central California, I don't know what that stuff is. I think it's a word that starts with S.

And I would like to know what sorcery made a perfectly straight line front to back lol.

Vile, looks like we got about the same amount. And just yesterday i picked up my truck, ground was warm and green, now look. Every time the rain flushes away the salt, it starts up again!

I came home from work to about 7" of fresh snow.  The 91 Blazer with the fisher EZ-V plow cleaned it up quickly.

Thank you.

At least we havnt hit those nasty low ttemps like last year. Has barely reached the teens thus far.  Snow dont have much bite when your in the 30's.
Title: Re: This aint right...
Post by: AZ87V10 on February 08, 2016, 10:39:33 pm
Well, a good deal of the snow I have here has since melted and the forecast is calling for clear skies and temps in the low 60's! As nice as that is, it's unusually warm for here at this time of year! Makes us all weary for the upcoming fire season. I definitely don't envy all you guys back east! Way too cold for my taste!

It was sunny and 75 today, just like Joe Nickels song. I spent most of the day in the drive way, enjoying the warm rays, cleaning the truck and running my country music at just about full volume. A privilege of living in the country with no close neighbors.

I'd like to visit Bodie, CA. And Bishops Creek area. You know where that is ltz?
Title: Re: This aint right...
Post by: bd on February 09, 2016, 04:52:19 pm
I've been to Bodie.  It's a jaw jarring drive over a seemingly e-n-n-n-d-d-l-e-s-s-s-s-s washboard road through the high desert.  Sorta like the "path" to Racetrack Playa in Death Valley.  Bishop, on the other hand, is one of many gateways into the East side of the Sierras.  From a scenic perspective, the East Side from Mojave in the south to Lassen Peak in the north is the prettiest that California has to offer.  A diverse landscape that is colorful, historic, rugged and majestic!  The perfect playground for an active outdoorsman, with just enough amenities to feel civilized.

Bodie was just featured in a recent edition of 4 Wheel and Offroad magazine, maybe two months or so ago? It looks really neat. I've never been there, but have been to Bishop. Have relatives that used to live there. It's like high desert almost low mountains. Very pretty.

It just looks like a really cool place, there is a website that tells its history. That town used to be boomin! A real western ghost town now, just like in the movies.
Title: Re: This aint right...
Post by: bd on February 10, 2016, 02:45:51 pm
The entire greater Bishop/Mammoth Lakes vicinity is gorgeous!  Pristine lakes and streams, hot springs, ghost towns, and jagged granite spires.  The lakes are cold and deep azure blue, the streams crystalline - many are lined with brightly colored rocks and offer a variety of trout to test your skill.  Mammoth is underlain by one of the world's dormant supervolcanoes with a scattering of sleeping infants around its flanks.  Obsidian domes and flows abound.  Verdant meadows, dense pine and fir forest, glacier carved canyons.  It is difficult to describe the intense beauty and serenity of the area, not to mention the adventure that awaits.  I don't believe that you would be disappointed.

Title: Re: This aint right...
Post by: Burkhalter on February 11, 2016, 04:55:15 pm
Thankfully not that cold, we're around the lower thirtys. We just started getting the nice spring time weather over the last week and a half. The "Spring fake out" which means that we'll probably start cooling off next week and start getting 2 or 3 inches snow every night that melts off around noon in a couple of weeks.

Post by: philo_beddoe on February 17, 2016, 09:46:35 pm
Weather update: it was -15. Then the next day it was like 56 and heavy rain,,,which flushed away and rinsed all the salt. Roads are finally clean, back to driving truck, hadnt since the superbowl. Too much salt. I know, i need a 4x4 beat up squarebody for winter use.

Since this is a weather thread, if i didnt have so much family here, i'd move to death valley. Clean sunny driving all year! ☀️☀️

Have you ever been to Death Valley?  There is good reason for its moniker.  It is the second hottest place on Earth!  And, BTW, I nearly froze to death in Death Valley, midst the snow.  But, that is a story for another time.   :-X

Not a chevy, but a GM. Made by pontiac.

Research Cosworth Vegas, they were fast little 4 cylinders back in the day.  It was a fun car to drive.  I delivered it out to LA from NW Indiana back when the speed limit was 55

That's the joke we say here in Arizona about the dry desert heat in Phoenix! Lol!
For it being the middle of February, it's been in the mid 60's here the last week! Most of our snow has melted away and Phoenix seems to be setting new record high temperatures on a daily basis! They're calling for 90 down there before long!

I'm sorry if it hits 70 by 9:00am, it is going to be too hot. On the bright side. By the time noon rolled around you wouldn't have to use the oven. Might be able to just throw a cast iron pan on the sidewalk, throw some meat in it, come back a little while latter and eat your meal.

I used to fight the heat real bad, a/c every chance i got. Then a mexican friend of mine taught me how to embrace it. It really is all in the head. Now i love a good new england heat wave, sometimes we'll hit upper 90's, but the humidity is like 80%. I think i'd love the southwest.

A friend just got back from the phillippines, said it was so hot, you have to hurry along when your outdoors, like people do when it pouring out. Hard to breath, 100 degrees, 100% humidity. Nasty stuff.

I have mixed feelings on this one.  I'm certainly looking forward to springtime, but I wouldn't mind another snow storm so I could play around with my plow truck.

Its a 69.  I moved it down to the new house after a snow storm, so I trailered it to keep it off the roadway.  I love the snow, but it can be tough letting the toys sit all winter.

It might be that time.
At the very least this garage might get some 9' high doors installed.
I'll start a new thread on suggestions for garages to keep this thread on track, which is dealing with snowy weather.

When I built my new house and shop I put 8 ft doors. When I've got something going on in the shop I can put the k5 in the house garage.

How dare you suggest something so low!

I've already lowered this truck once.
Back in its glory days this truck had a 12" lift with 44" Super Swampers.
About 7 years ago removed the big lift and installed a 4" lift with 35" tires.  That project involved changing the axles (I went from 5.13 gears to 4.11's, transfer case (it had a divorced Rockwell in it), and having the driveshafts reworked.
The truck was a daily driver for a short time untill I blew up the SB 400 with Tuned Port Injection.
About the same time I started playing around with the Military CUCV's (Uncle Sam's version of our trucks). I got into the CUCV's big time and have owned 17 of them in the last 7 years.
This step side has been sitting inside at my friends work building since the day the motor blew up 6 years ago.
Hopefully this is the year I get this truck back on the road.
