Title: Which seatbelt for newer seat? Does it matter?
Post by: 73FrankenTruck on February 10, 2016, 01:01:28 am
I have a 73 GMC 3/4ton. Previous owner installed a bench seat (60/40 split, electric, has orange button on receiver) from a later model truck. I need new seat belts. I had planned on using receivers that are already there, just replace shoulder belt.

Do I order belts for a 73, or do I need to order belts to match vintage of the seat?

Something to keep an eye on......I had the opposite issue. I came across a very nice bench at a local yard. No clue what yr. it came from. Stored it 4 several yrs. I put it in my 85' last yr. It was quite a bit taller (thicker) seat cushion then the original bench. I needed to replace the buckle side for extra length. Even w/the seat all the way back, I could barely hook up.

Considering the buckles are unknown to the truck you'd best just buy new 2 or 3 point seatbelts depending on what was in the truck.

Well to my knowledge 3 point belts weren't even offered in a 1973, so most likely they're aftermarket, and i just learned all about this because I am putting 3 point belts in my 1975, so first you have to determine what kind of seat you have 73-80 seats were different than 80-87 seats the 80-87 seat swoop in near the bottom seat belt mount, the 73-80 just go straight back and most aftermarket belts will not fit the seats that go straight back

Although the 3 point was an option the hole is there. These will work good:
