Title: Automatic to manual trans swap.
Post by: Raydawg40 on March 25, 2016, 01:09:44 pm
Sorry first time at this site and still getting used to it, I have a simple question and is probably somewhere already. I just have not found it. I am installing the Sm465 into my 75 Silverado and I see the spot where the clutch rod will go through the floor, I just don't know what size the hole was from factory. What size hole do I need to drill? I ask because I want the setup to look like it was original, not hacked up. Thanks

Thank you all for the helping me with the replies and the pictures. Thank you , today I will get this part finished up.

I've done a few of these, Since your truck is a 1975, Is the clutch pushrod going thru the firewall the original mechanical linkage with the Z bar or an upgrade to hydraulic master cyl and slave ?

I have a firewall section off a 1985 Chevy to know where the holes go but that would only help you if you are planning on using a hydraulic clutch setup.

Also I made a fixture from that firewall section that indexes off the fuse block hole.

Could upload those dimensions as well if you are putting in a hydraulic clutch.

If your still looking for a picture of he hole in the floor board for a manual clutch rod, here you go. The hole is 2" across. My truck is a 73. I switched to an automatic.

Anyone have a source for the rubber boot that seals the clutch rod where it passes through this hole. I've converted mine from an auto to a std and this is the one piece that I'm still missing.

Keep in mind this hole is for the mechanical linkage not the hydraulic.

The hole for the hydraulic master cylinder pushrod is more oblong then the z bar style.

I'll post a pic of the section of firewall I cut out as soon as I find it in my mess, semi trailer and containers, garage etc.

This is a clutch master cylinder firewall mounting location.

This us the location plate that I fabricated and used to put the holes in the correct location into the firewall, this picture shows the plate as it is placed into the fuse block hole in the firewall.

This picture shows the side of the plate that fits into the fuse block hole.
