Title: CHEAP Seat Covers that actually look pretty nice!
Post by: OldGray on April 07, 2016, 04:25:48 pm
I was going to buy some cheap seat covers just to go over the horrible seat I have until I could come up with the $250 for some nice custom upholstery.  So I found these on Amazon (linked at the bottom).  $19 shipped.  They actually got good reviews and just happened to match my interior color scheme PERFECTLY.  So I installed them today and was very pleasantly surprised.  If they stay tight like they are then I don't think I really need to blow the cash on the expensive ones!

So far I have been able to nickel-and-dime this truck into a pretty nice ride!

Thanks!  I bought this truck for basically doing truck-work stuff, so the cheaper I can make it, the better.  Hope they hold up for a long time...

Looks pretty good.
Only issue I see is; I found the solid color models in their other listing, but they still have the seams like the split colors, making it look tacky.
The split color covers look pretty good, though. I'd actually consider the beige/tan one on my rig.

The only drawback is that there are four straps on the top/bottom edge, and flimsy elastic loops on the sides that attach to the straps.

I was thinking I could cut off the elastic loops, then reinforce the edges and add grommets all around, so there are more tie-down points.  Then a long piece of cord to tie them on tight.  A little work, but might be worth it.

At first I was going to take a 4' x 6' Canvas tarp, and wrap the seat and tie it in back.  Would have been heavy duty, and easy to remove and wash.  Problem is Army green would clash with my Fire Engine Red doors!

I hope they last because it does look good. If that is the cheesy soft nylonish feeling fabric though I believe the seams will stretch apart first with weight put on them. The thread count is not locked and the individual threads pull apart because whelp threads are so slippery. Kinda like ripstop nylon does not tear but pulls open. Time will tell. But if they do at that price point you could just it again (while still saving for the quality upholstery work)
