If I decide to swap out my cab for rust reasons (rust at the cowl along the firewall seem and in the windshield pillars)can I swap vin tags as well?I would like to keep the authenticity of the truck. The truck in question is my fathers 76 who recently passed, and that was bought new in 75.I am doing a semi restoration for my oldest son at my fathers request.I am not sure of the legal ramifications of doing this.

Legally, you are not supposed to swap VIN plates. Technically, you are supposed to get the title and a receipt for the cab that you are installing and then trailer the truck to a State Patrol station where they check to see that nothing is stolen or anything. They chack everything, axles, shafts, engine, tranny, all body panels, everything. If it all comes back okay, they issue a new title. That is how it works here in Missouri anyway. Just trying to help.

I swaped my 86 tags onto the 83 cab I just did, and have done it many times in the past.

this might be old, but if yu're doing a restoration for nostalgic purposes, fix the rust. it's not his truck once the original cab is gone in my opinion...
