Title: trans question
Post by: bob75 on April 14, 2016, 11:05:54 pm
ok   here is the deal. I recently was given n 89 blazer. stock 350 700r trans. but the person who gave it to me took out the tbi and switched it to a carb, ruining the tbi harness along the way. I want to use the running gear in another truck. can I run the stock computer with the trans so all the shifting works,or will not having the tbi effect that function

The only things monitored/controlled by the ecm for the transmission are the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) singal, torque converter clutch  (TCC) lock up and what gear your in at any given time which is to helps determine if the TCC will engage because it will only come on in 4th gear, sometimes 3rd, depending on the setup. All most all of the ecm's functions are to monitor and control the engine. Shifting is done via internal transmission components in conjuction with the throttle valve (TV) cable. These inputs can be mimicked to use the trans as a stand alone unit without needing to involve anything for engine control/monitoring.

Exactly. You can fake the inputs with individual devices to use the trans by itself. No computer or TBI parts needed.
