Title: Axle spline count?

Is there any way to find out what axle spline count I have without opening up the dif? Truck is a 86 1/2 ton used to be 305 3 on the tree I've heard I most likely have a 3.08 gear but I have not looked into it yet. If any more info needed or answers let me know!

The original axles for an 1986 C10, 305, manual trans, with 8.5" ring gear should have 28 splines.
