Title: Quadrajet choke
Post by: Tommyd11730 on April 28, 2016, 11:10:45 pm
Hey Guys my 84 K2500 has a inoperable choke spring. By that I mean to say it never comes off high speed cam.  Rather then try to diagnose the vacuum / heat tube I want to replace the element with a electric one.

So are all the choke elements the same, or will I have to match up my manafold heat one with the replacement electric one.

Thanks!

Does the choke plate open when warmed up?If so the high speed cam could be sticking
from gunk build up or possibly where the choke shaft seal is

i believe you can convert to electric simply by plugging the vacuum hole in the choke body and discarding the old gasket that the previous choke had (the electric choke needs to be grounded to the choke body, that's why you don't use the gasket).   Then find a 12v key on source from the fuse panel.

But did 84 K2500 come stock with hot air chokes?

Yes mine came stock with the hot air choke.  I converted it with a 12V element.   Had no idea it was interchangeable.
