1987 305 tbi engine
I live in Cali and had to have a smog check done. The tech does the test and tells me the emissions test passed but he failed the over all test because my timing was way off
on a 305 cover there is a tube that I always understood was the TDC mark, in fact whenever I set the engine to TDC the crankshaft mark falls right under that tube
He goes on to tell me that the first point on the timing cover next to the tube is 0 degrees
Being crammed in the spot it is in you cant read the number stamped in the pointer
but it is supposed to be 0 degrees when set correctly
His charge to set the timing ...$80.00

Talk about corruption

yeah something doesnt seam right about this guy. i mean even if you paid 80 to "pass" inspection that he failed you on cause he has that power over you doesnt seam right. i dont know how CA does inspection but every time ive been through emissions if it passed it passed there was no checking timing cause it PASSED

Govt. employee power is out of control.
I bought an 05 Camry from a friend of mine after it was involved in a light rear end collision. Had her buy it back from the insurance company as they totaled it.
I had the frame straitened, put a rear bumper, and bumper cover on it.
State won't issue a title until a state police officer has checked it out.
Trailered it to DMV.
Front bumper cover has a 2" crack on the bottom edge, FAILED!
Paper work says need reciepts for " major components used to rebuild car, engine, transmission etc. "
Didn't bring them for the bumper, and cover as I wouldn't consider them " major components " not to mention you can see the stickers on them from the aftermarket company with my business name on them, FAILED!
Frame was straitened by one of the best frame guys in N.H. His machine is 30 years old. It doesn't have any digital readouts, or print anything out. Wants to know where the frame machine print out is, tells me that all frame machines give a print out with measurements before, and after.
Wants to know where my alignment measurements are? Told him when cant drive it to get alignment with registering it, cant register it without a title. He looks at me, and says. " Didn't have any trouble trailering it here did you? "
Guy behind me had taken the bed off the truck he was driving, 04 Chevy 3500 4x4 put a service body on it. Put the bed on the truck he had on the trailer, 04 Chevy 2500 4x4 that he had bought similar to how I bought the Camry.
They wouldn't inspect the 2500 because he didn't have the recipt for the used door he had put on it because it had rust issues, he didn't have the recipt for the cab corner patch panels he had repaired the rust with, and the big one, because he didn't have the title in hand for the truck the bed came off of. He was driving the truck it came off, registered to him! Fresh painted new service body, business name on the door. Cop said, that bed could have come off a stolen truck for all he knows!

so even if the paint on the doors and bed match, couldnt it still be stolen?
