I considering changing my 85 interior from red to black and would like see what others think.
I know I'll need new carpet and seatbelts, have to have my seats reapolstered and will have to have the interior metal that shows repainted, but can I paint my existing plastic pieces (moldings, door panels and dashpad) black?
Would it look the same as having black plastics from the start?
Would there be any feel or durability issues?

I am not a fan of red interiors.
If the exterior is red I would not paint the interior metel pieces, just leave them red, that will look ok, red goes well with black.
As far as painting the vinal pieces like door panels, that looks ok if the panels are in good shape. Otherwise just buy new, they are pretty inexpensive.
Its cheaper to find a j-yard black seat than it is to have your red one redone.
Get a JC Whitney truck catalog.

The interior metal should be the same color as the exterior body. As far as plastic & vinyl interior parts go if you use the correct materials such as SEM brand interior dye or = and prep it correctly they should look fine. You can get the dye in a spray bomb or by the quart or gallon and run it through a spay gun. As far as the seat goes you can buy a factory replacement cover, hog rings, and a par of hog ring plyers and recover it yourself. If your seat and / or rug is in perfect condition you can dye them as well.

85 Silverado - SWB - 2WD
Changing interior from red to black.
Okay, I'm straightened out on not painting the interior metal. Not sure what I was thinking.
I'm all set with everything I need except the Seatbelts. , Chevy Duty and JC Whitney only seem to carry generic assemblies. Is there any other option besides salvage or dealer parts department?
Thanks,
Barry
