Hi all, I've been doing door repairs and after wire wheeling away some of the paint I've noticed some thick coating on the metal. At first I thought it was body filler, but it seems to be over the whole door and I've seen this on 2 different doors. I've not seen this on any other body panel. If this is common, what is it and would it be fine to just clean it all off?

One side is the door, the other side is the patch piece from a different door.

I use old hoods, doors, etc. to make a lot of my patch panels. I always grind them down to just about bare metal before I cut, bend, or weld to the vehicle being repaired.
