Title: 74 GMC k25 ignition stector gear?
Post by: Nomar85 on May 03, 2016, 08:59:02 pm
When I bought my truck the tow yard took the column apart. I'm not sure what's all missing but I do know the gear behind the tumbler is gone. The sector shaft? Is there I use a standard screwdriver to start it now. Is there a good diagram I can use or should I just go to the junkyard and take one apart. Are there any parts I don't need? I've never been a fan of the steering wheel locks. Also it has a GT steering wheel on it, which I'm probably going to switch because the horn button is broken. Thanks in advanced.

couple things, you need the steering wheel lock it acts like a spacer and without it the wheel will flop around. who knows what damage theyve done to it by using a screw driver, i would go to a junk yard and get a whole steering column and hopefully it has a key along with it also. the intermediate shaft depends on the year and theres two styles one has a C-clamp style (which yours should) and then you have the center bolt style. if you get the same style as what you have in your truck you dont need the intermediate shaft but if you get the other style you need the other style intermediate shaft. the wire harness pig tail might be different also, i know with mine i had to trim the pig tail and plug it in different but this was due to the years being different. 77ish is when they changed from one style clamp to the other
