Title: alternator connection checks
Post by: My 86 on May 14, 2016, 02:04:22 pm
On the alternator you have a plastic 2 wire connector. What should the voltage read at these points with the engine ignition on run without the engine running? It is also disconnected from the alternator. I get about 12.8 volts on 1 & 2. Is this correct? I know terminal #2 should be connected to 12 volts and terminal # 1 goes to the voltmeter on the dash panel but in a GM service manual it shows terminal # 1 should read 1 volt or more. What is the maximum this terminal should be? I am replacing the alternator and I want to make sure this is ok before I try and start it up.
