Title: Connections I have no clue where it goes
Post by: Pike1915 on May 20, 2016, 01:07:44 am
I have a connection that I can't figure out where it plugs into.  The wires also have a lead that comes off it and goes to some sensor. (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160520/d771658c37801d385d65444848d6b3d2.jpg)

What year? Does the sensor go in the head or exhaust? Maybe take another picture of the sensor.

That looks like the alternator wiring harness.

That looks like part of the Transmission Controlled Spark (TCS) modification that restricts vacuum advance operation to high gear.  Chances are there are components long missing from the system that are no longer available.  As long as you don't have to endure vehicle emissions inspections, leave it disconnected or remove the wiring entirely, along with its temperature sensor and relay, so as to leave no trace to excite suspicion.

I'm glad you can see that lol

What?  You've never heard of Carnac the Magnificent?  lol  I doubled the image size to see blue and green wires and what I suspect, used to be pink. then surmised from there.  Really, nothing else made sense for the year.

I do not have to have  emissions done on this truck.  I have one sensor on the right (passenger) rear of the block and a sensor on the  driver front of block.  Which one goes to temp gauge in cab.  I don't want to start ripping out wires if I need them.  I mean I wish I could just trash it all but can't

The OE configuration places the temperature gauge sending unit in the left cylinder head between the #1 and #3 spark plugs and connects to the dash gauge through a single dark green wire.

Take the time to verify the wires in question are what I think they are by comparing to the 1974 Wiring Manual (http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/techinfo/7387CKMans//Wiring/ST_352_74_1974_GM_Light_Truck_Wiring_CK_G_10_30_Only.pdf) (page 2) and the 1974 Service Manual (http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/techinfo/7387CKMans//Service/ST_330_74_1974_Chevrolet_Light_Truck_Service_Manual.pdf) (page 518).

Does it have AC? If so take a pic of the Evaporator box. Is the temp switch plugged in? Looks like someone's done some parts swapping because a lot of that is not correct for 1974

No there is no A/C at all.  The guys above I believe are right it's part of the  emissions  But is till have have the air blower and so on.  also because the  sensor  on passager side rear of block doesn't go to anything.  And the senor between  cylinder 1 and 3 is used for temp.  Yes the guy that had this truck before has done a lot of stuff .  That's why I'm trying to clean some of it up.  IE.  They made there own towing wiring harness out of whatever they could find.  They jumpped of any fuse they wanted and even bypassed a fussed.  Then drilled holes through the seat and floor to run them.  Just trying to clean up and make it safe..

Fuse box when I first got it.  So "censored word's will get you removed from this forum" stupid...

I hope that you have since properly installed the fuses. Take a bunch of pictures of the engine compartment so we can get a full view of what we're looking at here. Is the VECI label under the hood still in tact?

I'm not sure what censored words you are trying to use but yes everyone is expected to follow the forum rules.

That fuse box was from a while ago.  I replaced and changed to correct ones and took out all the extra junk wire and so on.  I'm not sure what word I was even trying to use .  But sorry

That's the RH cylinder head sensor and relay for TCS.  It goes with the transmission sensor you were asking about here--->  http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=33225.msg282514#msg282514 (http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=33225.msg282514#msg282514)

Cause half is already unplugged and had no where to go.  So why have the rest.  Would rather clean up all the wires

I would suggest you post more pics so we can see the big picture.
