Post by: Stm3784 on June 25, 2016, 07:19:08 pm
Hi guys, I got a stock 350 2 barrel. Im considering putting an open air filter on. What are everybody thoughts on open air vs. snorkel housing. 1978 k/20 350 sm465 np205.

Should add a little more flow. They look good untill the filter gets dirty which will happen quick with the open air filter

1) If you still have the plastic tube running from the front of the truck still hooked up to the snorkel, then little if any advantage to running open element.   And very possibly a drop in mpg.     And if you do get any advantage it would only be at like 4500rpm and higher.

2) If you do not have the tube hooked up then very little advantage and if any advantage then only at 4000rpm or higher AND it totally depends on the brand of the open element.   Also depends on height---taller is better.

Remember, just my opinion.  i do not have any tests to back this up.

i'm running an open element (soon to be K+N) because it's too much of a hassle getting the stock air filter housing to fit after the swap.
