I recently installed an axle flip kit on my 75 C10. I watched a few videos on other trucks that had done the same thing and noticed one fella cut the bottom thick leaf off (I have 3 +1)and put the cut section on top of the leafs acting as a lowering block of sorts. I did the same thing, and it seems to have worked...but my issue now is the leafs almost seem weak. Before the doing anything to the truck, the back would barely sag when I sat in the bed, now it just flops right down and the leafs look almost flattened without a load even with the new shocks installed.
By process of elimination, the only thing that changed between then and now...is the cutting of that bottom leaf, so my question is does that one leaf make that big of a difference?

yes, it is what is referred to as an overload, and that prevents the upper leaves from overarching. by cutting it, and not completely removing, you are now over stressing the bottom of the leaf pack. also, by putting a section on top, if it extends past the u-bolts, you can flatten the leaves
