Title: Wiring on a cab swap
Post by: s002rat on March 24, 2006, 10:04:00 pm
I am putting an 84 cab on a 78 truck.  Will the old style fuse block connect to the new style fuse panel at the firewall?  If not, what kind of mess am I getting into converting?

It will conect but the pin positions are different. They can be moved around. I think best bet would be to use the under hood / nose, & engine wire harness from the 84. I belive the tail light harness is the same all the way up through.

You can easily relocate the wires on the cab side of the fuse box by pushing a small screwdriver into the terminal and pulling the wire at the same time.Look at both schematics for each year and it can be done.I just installed an 87 tilt colunm along with the fusebox and connected all the 76 cab wiring to it.Patience................and  fiddling around....and a bit of$#$#%^$#% ...and you'll be done.

Same here.  Got my 77 K-10 and have a chance at a rust free 1985 C-10 with title for $200.00.  I know when my 76 body went on my 79 frame, it all worked with no problem.  Could it be the same for the 85... then again, it may be easier to just take the wiring from the 85 since the whole body is coming off of both trucks anyway.
