Hello!
I've been reading these forums
I recently bought a nice C10 which has a vin plate in it that says it's a 4x4 82'. I have found a few markings that lead me to believe it may be an 87'.
The motor is a 350 with throttle body injection, it has tilt wheel, cruise control, and power windows. factory AC, and the windshield wiper speed control is on the column, not over the headlight switch.
Given any of this info, do you see anything that would tip you off as to whether it is truly an 82' or simply another year?
I did a vin search with the police before purchase and registration. It's clean, and I drive it every day, I just wonder what it's story is.
Can any of you think of anywhere else I could look to find a tell tale birth Mark?
Thanks so much! This forum rules!

Welcome.
To start, there should be a partial Vin on the front of the frame, near the steering box mounting area. It should match the Vin on the cab.

I found a vin on top of the passenger side frame rail between the front spring shackle and the gas tank.
Just so I understand this, you have a c10 that someone swapped the cab out with a 4x4 vin cab, but its registered under the frame vin?

If it was an 87 it would be an R10 not a C10. the VIN will tell all. It is entirely possible someone swapped parts throughout it's life since many parts easily interchange. Post pics and the VIN. You can omit the serial numbers and just post xxxxxx

Ha. You got one like mine
350 engine
76 headlights
Rad support has a factory emission and vacuum hose sticker for
1980 six cylinder
Has the one year only 73 doors with the tiny rollers
Only mine has all the VIN numbers ground off the engine transmission and frame and dash and has a state issued VIN tag riveted in the door
If it has TBI and looks like stock fuel lines and stuff. You probably have a 87 with maybe a 82 cab ?
My brother has a pickup registered as a 82 4wd using the VIN on the dash but the VIN is a 2wd and the frame vin is a 87

The windshield wiper controls and dimmer switch was moved to the steering column in 1985. GM calls this the "multi-function" switch.
