Title: Borgeson steering shaft for Jeep XJ
Post by: fitz on July 26, 2016, 06:10:55 pm
I've read a few post on here and watched a few YouTube videos about the jeep xj steering shaft swap into a square body Chevy.
I'm about to order the  Borgeson XJ shaft for my M1028.  Has anyone else used the Borgeson steering shaft?
My truck has the same issue that Philo beddoe's truck has.  There is a slight "clunk" in the front end going over a bump. I went through the front end of this truck 2 years ago solving a death wobble issue.  Everything is tight with the exception of a little play in the steering shaft.
Any thoughts on the Borgeson jeep xj unit?
Thanks

I have the xj shaft on my 87 and love it. I didn't go with borgeson though. I pulled one from the pnp yard. (http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160727/4e7030fa5c394d7146f3d6fbd0b8957f.jpg)

I just did the xj shaft as well, I'm very happy with it.

Fitz or someone else, what exactly is the reason and purpose for this steering shaft swap?

to get rid of the rag joint. theres a safety on the rag joint so if it does fail you will still have control but with play.

Yes.
I just figure if I have to replace mine I'd look into upgrading it.

yup just a preference. but with bigger tires you put more stress on the rag joint especially if your tires are stuck in the mud and you have to really turn the tires and fight the mud while not moving

Not an issue on 2wd for me.

I only had my truck in the mud one time, when I entered the Halifax mudfest last year.  My 6.2 diesel wanted no part of fighting the mud. It just layed down and sank like a rock.
