Title: Distributor and Rotor issue?
Post by: Harmon on July 28, 2016, 12:51:49 pm
1986 chevrolet c/10

I have had an issue with the truck not starting occasionally. It will turn over and the starter will work but it acts as if there's no spark.  A couple of years ago I replaced the entire distributor , all the parts , cap and rotor.

Not much longer after that it did the same thing , so I took off the distributor cap and rotor and clea n them. If I do that almost every single time the truck will start. Has anyone had an issue with this? I finally bought a lifetime warranty this  cap and rotor because of this issue but it makes me very weary of driving the truck as I do not want to be stranded.  I do keep a back up rotor in my truck just in case though.

Any ideas of my issue or similar problems would be greatly appreciated thank you.

How do the wires look going into the distributor? Have you double checked your timing? Have you tested the coil both cold and warm? A while ago I had a problem with my coil not working when it was warm.

My timing is off so when it runs again I'm going to adjust it.  Would timing cause no spark symptom?

You would still have spark. You just wouldn't be getting spark at the right time.

Check the pick up coil and ignition module
