Title: Fuel Problem

New to this forum business so please be kind.

I have a stock 1973 Silverado 350 SBC. Everything from the fuel pump to the carb has been replaced. Yet, I'm still having problems getting fuel to the carb. Little glass filter by the carb has fuel in it, yet it hesitates, stalls, has trouble starting...
Edelbrock 1406, was jetted lean. Put it on 23 for edelbrock tuning chart. Replaced spark plugs, wires, all gaskets. I just can't figure it out. I thought vapor lock but no source. Thought sender unit but again someone said not likely. I checked the floats. Broke down the carb.

have you taken the fuel line off the carb and put the line into a can and crank the motor?   this will tell you the fuel is good from the tank to the carb by measuring the volume of fuel pumped. also have you checked the choke on the carb to make sure it is working right?

Ok. Took fuel line off the carb and got good flowing fuel into the can. Readjusted the choke, it was way lean and she fired back up. She cruises real fine but hit the gas and she hesitates and stumbles.

New accelerator pump in the carb. Checked the lines and they look ok. Put new gas cap and it helped-no longer getting air bubbles in the fuel filter.

I had similar issues, after doing about everything, I put in a new distributor........problem solved

I agree that timing is an issue, either late advancing or just not advancing at all

I think you're right.
Updated: thermostat, water pump, hoses, edelbrock 1406 rebuild, valve cover gaskets, manifold gaskets, new fuel lines, new fuel pump, new fuel filter, return fuel system put in.

This week I'll put in new spark wires and plugs.



I'll need to figure out how to adjust timing. Never done that before but some threads make it sound easy and others make it sound complicated.

It's easy, you just need an ignition strobe timing lamp, the refering inition cable is usually the first cylinder on the right when you look your truck from the front and the advance on your harmonic balancer must be flashed around 10°.
