Hello, very first post, hope its in the right place. I have a 86 k-10 short bed and I have the brushed tailgate trim and am wondering if there is a mounting template available for getting the holes right.
-
No template that I know of. You could separate the two halves, mark new holes and put it back together. It will separate, just to be brutal on it, I've separated and re attached them a few times. I would offer to measure mine for you but I'm not in the same place as my truck is.

I've got one of those panels in my office and was thinking you could put the screws in backwards or from behind the panel so they are sticking out and then line the panel up and gently scratch the areas that you need to drill the holes.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions. After doing a little bit more sizing up, it appears as though the 4 mounting screws may line up dead center in the 4 stamped squares on the inner tailgate. Sort of makes sense. Just working up the guts to drill into a perfect surviving tailgate from 86! I will update no matter how it works out.

Just make a template with a piece of construction paper.

Hmm. once again, simplicity wins out over long drawn out math! Good idea, thanks!

The holes do line up in the center like your thinking just so you know.

Thanks for the confirmation LTZ C20!!!

Welcome. I'll be home in about an hour if you would like me to measure my tailgate.

Worked perfectly. all 4 holes are centered within their respective squares. Will post pics. Thanks again!

I guess my pics are too big. :-[

Even without pics, it still worked.
