1) So i decided to take the truck on a longer trip---to be a "real" test of the new setup.
2) i got stuck idling in bad traffic for about 40 mins at a major toll bridge. (Irish is likely familiar with the location AND how BAD the congestion can be on a Sat afternoon.....)
The truck idled all that time with no problems----the Spal fan did a great job at keeping everything cool, although towards the end the temp did seem to get up to about 230 maybe. It did not overheat though.
3) Right after the toll booths and right after traffic broke and we were able to get moving it immediately stalled out. This bridge has NO shoulders. So at this point i'm not so much worried about breaking down itself; i'm thinking if the thing breaks down i'm definitely getting a new truck cos i'm very tired of this AND i'm going to have hundreds of P'OFF people behind me----traffic was backed up at least 1 mile at this bridge and it was very hot today.
Fortunately, i was able to coast and restart it. But as soon as i dropped it back in gear it stalled again. Still rolling i repeated this probably 4 times. It was very frantic and i was going out of my mind, so i THINK i'm pretty sure i pressed the pedal down while cranking. (which might indicate flooding?) i'm also pretty sure i revved it to about 2000 when dropping it back in gear. By about the 4th or 5th time it cleared up and it stayed running. By this time we were able to go about 22 mph average, then 40 ish , then normal speeds etc. And engine temp dropped to about 200ish.
About a mile later i stopped to get gas. Afterwards, it's started right up no problems.
What do you think happened? i'm leaning towards flooding or float level not right. i have not checked float level on this new carb yet.
Otherwise the truck performed great---went from idle, to part idle, to cruise pretty smooth and crisp. Electric pump seems to be working just great. Engine itself seems fine. Trip was about 150 miles. Didn't fail the test but didn't get an A either. i would give it a B- because of the bridge scare.

My first guess would be vapor lock
Is the fuel line on the same side of the truck as the exhaust pipes ?

No, i'm running single exhaust right now down the left side.
i was thinking vapor lock also, but wouldn't it take a few mins for that to subside? i was able to get it running after 20-30 secs.

First thought... Carb loading up-float set to high and flooding over. Does your oil smell like gas?

i should probably check float level. i haven't changed the oil yet.
And if i knew you had that truck for sale earlier i would have flown over and snatched it right up. But since i've gotten this one running (more or less) there's no need for another truck. :P

16-17 mpg probably wouldn't have been good enough plus it is a manual shift

Chesapeake bay bridge?

Chesapeake bay bridge?
Yes, and went back today. Westbound backed up to Kent Island! i've seen it backed up to Chestertown and have sat in it coming back from the beach. :(
This bridge just isn't working out anymore, at least not on weekends.

Since i needed a running truck these past few months that plus the stick would have been good enough. ;)

yeah its crazy even when you time it right you will still hit some sort of traffic. I tend to stay away from the vacationers but even to work you still have to deal with them. Mainly from jersey and York, for some reason they want to do 55 in both lanes riding next to each other. I get some mean looks as a squeeze my crew cab in spaces some cars have issues with. Then ill also roll some coal on some of the ones who really tick me off lol

i don't know what the solution would be if any but this bridge IS NOT working out anymore.
Put the tolls on the WB side with left lane the dedicated easy pass lane?

theres talk of another bridge. most the way to the beaches are supposed to be 3 lanes where needed
