i want to buy a cowl hood for my 84 and ive been looking around and i have found that fiberglass hoods are cheeper. is their any disadvantages to a fiberglass compared to a steel hood that i should know about? and vice versa. thanks
-
Depends on who makes the fiberglass hood. If they are significantly cheaper, I would question their fit/finish. Example. UP22 hoods are NOT for anything (in my opinion) but a lightweight drag truck.

becareful on your hood purchase, are ya looking for a factory latch assembly or a pin on ? I have a HARDWOOD 3 1/2 in factory latch / rear hanger ,on my 85sb, however the factory spring was to "stiff" had to take it off now I use a prop rod,w/ the spring itstuck up above the fender abit ,took off spring fits good , had to move cowl in about a1/4 in to close up gap but I'm really pleased w/ it "show -room" underside also ,it came from JEGS,drive to pick up 1hr away, pricey but worth it , roll low ...drag hard

Stay away from Unlimited hoods.
I used to have their 3" cowl, but have since ditched it and gone back to a stock flat hood. IMO, cowl hoods have lost their trendiness. To me, nothing looks better than stock...but not being stock underneath the skin...if you know what I mean.

Unlimited is GARBAGE! I have one sitting upstairs in my garage for a 73-80 I'll sell ya for $50 bucks and I paid $400 I think. After i took that piece of crap off I put a Reflexxion Reflexxion hood, it's lightweight steel and looks/fits awesome.

I have to agree on the unlimited products fiberglass hoods. I bought one for my 78 malibu and almost sanded right through it trying to get all the factory blems out of it.
I would go with steel or not at all.
-
Well now that i know to stay way from the Advantage and UP22 hoods, there was one good comment about Harwood. Since the Harwood hoods and most steel hoods are about the same price, which would have the better fit, look, and give me the fewest amount of headaches?
-
Could anyone recommend a good steel cowl hood, any problems with fit that are known? I'm thinking of putting one on the 80 in the future.
-
I can recommend this one, made by Goodmark.

Did any of you see the link I posted? I can testify to it's fit and quality. I think Harwood is ehhh ok but the Reflexxion hoods are wicked nice!
-
Eventually i like to purchase 1, BUT it only lists for 81-91 not 73-80 which i do need. Can you get a line on the 73-80 styles?
thanks
pat

Right now the 73-80 are on backorder. I don't have a definite time of when they will be in. When I do get them in, they will be added back to the catalog.

for the newer make ('81-'91) , I need to know what is
the length, width and height (front and back) of the cowl.
How far from the wiper cowl does it stay on the hood ?
Someone has the full measurement for this ?
I have some spare hoods that I could experiment with
fiberglass and I want to give it a try.
Just the classic one we often see, not the new "wide" cowl.
