Title: Frame rust
Post by: Fermentedwaste on August 30, 2016, 07:41:47 pm
So just like most the other trucks I have mild rust on the frame rails and body. ima be replacing the body panels. I wanted to see what kind of coatings/ paints you all have had good results with on painting the frame rails. I've heard so much good and bad about por 15 I don't even know what to think about it. Any of you guys have experience with it or chassis saver or stop rust or any other Paints or coats. Best thing I've seen is a guy sandblasted his frame then sprayed it with kircker enduroprime epoxy primer. Like to see what you guys use and how you prep them. Thanks

Sandblast, and if needed a acid spray for the hard to reach areas. Then it's whatever coating you want, I like Zero Rust paint. Others do swear by POR. Chassis saver seems to get high reviews.

I have used Rust Bullet.  It sticks like a dude to rusty metal, but flakes off in sheets on clean metal.

I didn't find Zero Rust any better than Tremclad or Rustoleum.  I was really disappointed.

I did the rear axle in POR15 and it is impressive so far, but it's only been a year.

I sandblasted my whole frame and the underside of my box, then I went to the local John Deere dealer and got some buff primer and blitz black paint and sprayed that on because it's cheap and is very similar to the factory coating and I think it seems to be holding up pretty good but it's only been on for 3 months and hasn't seen brutal iowa winters yet

Yea I heard rust bullet was pretty good too. Sandblasting would deffinately be more thorough I like that thought probably is more on the $$ side. Thanks for the feedback. Wish my bed looked that complete Brewster. I need to weld some new bed supports in mine it's like Swiss cheese.
