Hey guys, new to the forum. My old truck was an 06 TBSS. Anyhow my grandpa passed down my 87 K10/R10. I'm in the process of slowly restoring and fixing everything and I'm trying to replace the steering dampner before I replace the steering gear. I've got one side off but the second side is seized up. It's got one nut on the outside that I got off, and then it's got one nut on the other side. I can't get the bolt to move and I've soaked it with PB blaster. Do I need to get the other nut loose before I can take it all out? And secondly the new one I bought only has 1 nut. Just looking for advice thanks

Unfortunately you will probably destroy that bolt getting it out, so make sure you can get another. I flip the castle nut and start it on the threads, gives better surface area and just start whacking away with a hammer. That bolt has a tapered shaft, which makes it hard to remove, very rarely do I manage to save the bolt, no matter how I try.

One of the following pullers should work. Just measure the tie rod and choose the tool that fits: OTC Pitman Arm Puller/Tie Rod End Puller 6296 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/otc-6296), OEM Specialty Tools 25297 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/oes-25297), SPC Performance 5 in. Tie Rod Puller 8370 (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sps-8370).

The bolt in question is part of the steering damper that you are replacing. The new damper comes with a new bolt. Just beat on the old one until it pops.

Alright, so just beat the shoot out of it?

You could put the nut on loose and lock it with a new cotter pin, then drive it until it pops loose. Otherwise buy a tool, or beat the poop out of it. If you choose the latter, you'll be beating up your tie rod end also.
