Just replaced the kickdown cable on my truck - 305/TH350/2bbl. Fits fine and seems to be the correct one.
I know how to adjust it, and I have it adjusted ALL the way out and it still doesn't kick down the transmission.
Exactly how far does the cable pull out (once it hits the point) before it drops the gears? Seems like my cable is just too long. Too bad the long metal loop at the carb end isn't adjustable!
Can't really move or adjust the bracket due to limited room. Any suggestions?

did you make sure the rod didn't fall back out when installing it back in the trans? done it before, I keep my eye on it, bolt it up...nothing, unbolt, and out comes the cable with nothing attached.
or worse your new cable snapped...
otherwise it is minutely plausible that the cable is a slight bit long.

Will check the Trans end, but pretty sure it is hooked up and able to operate. May have to build a bracket for the carb to extend the mounting stud forward a good 1/2" or so.

Post a picture of the cable at the carb linkage area.

How about further out, so we can see the brackets and such. Probably should have said that the first time, sorry.

Did you have someone push the pedal to the floor when setting the tab on the cable, if you do it with the linkage on the carb you can get an incorrect setting. Pushing the pedal may not give you full l travel if you set it using the carb linkage and no kick down.

Yes, but I am going to re-do the whole process after checking the Trans end connection.

Well Ill be d4mned I think I actually got it all sorted out...
See I just rebuilt the carb, which I've never done before, and the fact that I drove it for a while tonight and it didn't explode, was fantastic. Wow what a difference the rebuild made. Lotsa poop in it for sure.
The PO "manufactured" the bracket for the throttle cable. It was getting in the way of the throttle linkage and would actually get stuck if you floored it - discovering that was fun. So I ground it down and got it out of the way so no binding anymore. Then I just said to he(( with it and made a spacer (bolt) for the kickdown cable. And it WORKS!
So here's how I did that, and THANKS for the help!

I has to use a bolt like that in mine too....i hate those type of kickdown cables.
