Title: 87 c10 clutch linkage
Post by: cirose on September 18, 2016, 07:30:23 am
Hey guys, first time poster but have been lurking for a while now.

I have a 1987 Chevy R10 short wheel base i am working on....

it currently has a 4.8 vortec/4l60E auto tranny, truck was always auto also.

I have a 93 NV4500 transmission here i am putting in it.
all i have is the tranny itself and the clutch pedals with nothing attached to them.

Can someone guide me in the right direction as to what else i am gonna need to order for this swap? i really dont have much understanding on how a manual clutch setup works.. what am i going to need in terms of clutch linkage rods, master cylinder, lines, (slave cylinder is there though) etc?

You need the specific 85-87(91) square body pedals, the ones you got with the transmission will most likely not work without a bit of fabrication. You will also need a master cylinder and a line made up to connect to the slave on the transmission. And finally you will probably need an ECU retune to run the engine-10 times outa 10 the ECU enters limp mode at any tranny failure codes.

i forgot to mention i have the hydraulic clutch pedals out of what im told is a 85-87 square body, and i also have hp tuners to tune the ecu.

other then that i need the master cylinder for the 1993 chevy 3500 truck the nv4500 came from? slave cylinder and that stuff is still on the parts truck, master was missing

I would use the master from an 80's truck, I am pretty sure the linkage changed in the master on the 90's trucks, but I think the 90's hydraulic line will still work.

There should be a couple dimples on the firewall, so mounting the master should be pretty straight forward.

hmm.. friend of mine used the master off the 94 donor truck for his square body.. wonder if the line on the square body master is the same diameter as the slave for the 93 nv4500?

i didnt see any dimples in my firewall but will check again
