I have been trying to find a replacement for the steering shaft coupling(I'm not sure that's what it is so I circled the part in the picture) but I cent find it anywhere.. If anyone knows where to get it other than a junk yard I would really appreciate it.

I was under the impression the rag joint was the component closer to the steering box..

sorry cant see the picture due to a firewall. but yes the rag joint connects the steering intermediate shaft with the steering box

That's what I thought. But it's the piece closer to the steering column, mine has a shoot ton of play.

That part is called an intermediate shaft steering u-joint.....or steering U-joint for short.
If you were to remove that metal cover and boot you would see a u-joint in there similar to a driveline ujoint....just smaller.
If you can't find one at your local parts store or through one of the resto sites then go to http://www.borgeson.com/xcart/home.php?cat=34
Borgeson makes top of the line steering parts. If you have to end up buying the entire intermediate shaft assembled then get it from Borgeson instead of a factory replacement or repop part. They are close to the same price.
I would never put a used joint or intermediate shaft assembly from a junkyard back on. Always buy these parts new.
