Title: i have grown a new hate for guys who drive hondas
Post by: shaved80 on March 02, 2005, 06:05:00 pm
i'm driving behind a civic hatch, and the light turns yellow. he is less than a car lengths away from the crosswalk, when he slams on his brakes. i'm a good 2 car lengths behind him, but it wasn't far enough. i slammed right into the back of him. this is my second ticket, so now i'm gonna be paying out my ass for insurance. it was some skinny little mormon boy, which i definetly would've beat down if the cop wasn't there. what's even worse, all he got was a few scratches, yes SCRATCHES.

man i'm sorry to hear that. i know exactly how you feel. did he get a ticket? don't worry the truck can be fixed. we all have wrecks.i would've beat 'em down myself. sounds like it wasn't your fault, he should have been paying more attention to what's in front of him. good luck though.

no, I got the ticket since i was in back, "failure to control your vehicle". it's not so much the fixing that i'm worried about, yea i could've spend that $400-$500 on something better, but i'm only 17, so my insurance is going to SKYROCKET for the next couple years. i think it's at 21 when your records are cleaned.

i can't believe they didn't give him a ticket!!! so what if you're in the back. he was in the front, somebody could've ran across that crosswalk and he would've injured or even killed them.that is pretty messed up.well they should have given him a ticket because he couldn't control his car the skid marks from his braking would prove that. yeah insurance is going to go up, that really sucks.another thing is he'll probably brag about how is car was rearended by a full-size truck and that the truck was damaged more than his ricer was and that an old truck like that is suppost to be tuff.>:

he wasn't one of those riceboys that think they're super fast. he's always going under the speed limit, and it's just a stock civic without bodykit or anything. good thing it wasn't, cause i would've smashed the @#%$ out of their aftermarket crap, then iw ould've had to pay to get their car fixed.

Shane (and shaved80), cool your jets a little my friend...don't be stereotyping Honda drivers.  I myself drive a 00 Civic.  DO I think it is a hot rod...no.  Can I handle a V8...yes.  Lets try to keep our post and conversations civil and non "high school-ish".

Shaved80, sorry to hear about your truck and the ticket.  It sucks to get into any kind of accident.  Hopefully your insurance won't go up, and hopefully you will be able to fix the truck and keep it out of future trouble.  Keep us posted on how things play out.

sorry to hear about the ticket.  I guess u live in Utah? Mormon land.  Anyway, here in NJ when you rearend some one it is your fault, 1 car length or 10. Was the other driver wrong for stopping too short? Maybe to the norm of everyday experienced drivers,(may be he just got his license)  but he was driving within the scope of the law.   The law is the law black and white, and the Cop issued the summons to cover his a@@ in a liability lawsuit so he can't be sued for malfeasons by the driver of the civic.  Yes it sucks, I have been not wishing to issue the summones for accidents knowing how and why the accident happened, but I also do not want someone suing me in civil court and then losing everything I own.  Your best bet is to go to court and try to plead the summons to a lesser charge, speak to someone who is in law enforcement in your area for advice, or pay the ticket and look in to driving school to lower the insurance.   Oh, and just remember any accident you walk away from...  count your blessings!  The stainless steel tables in the morgue are pretty cold.

i live in arizona, it's pretty much like utah. yea, the same law applies here about the one in back being at fault. he and i could've easily made it throught the light, he was already at the crosswalk when it JUST turned yellow. i know it's the law, it just sucks. it's my second ticket so i can't go to school again.

If you are paying attention, following at a safe distance (1 car length per 10mph), and have average brakes there is no reason why you cannot stop in time to avoid rear-ending someone.

Gotta agree with you though about hating those compacts. Especially the ones with the ridiculous, obnoxiously loud mufflers! Every time I hear one I want to rip that muffler off and stuff it down the guy's throat. >:

didn't mean to offend you bigblock73, i was just joking with the hating honda drivers, i was just really pissed off.

and i was pretty far back, farther than i thought i was. a couple kids who saw the accident said i was OVER 2 car lengths behind him, but my brakes locked up and i just skid and hit him.

my insurance is gonna DOUBLE :eek  so i'm looking at probably $350-400 a month. i'm working on the truck, i fixed the dent in the hood, and the one on the right fender. i'm gonna have to buy a new grille. then my dad and i are gonna go to a junkyard and hopefully find the lower grille panel and the right parking light. then i'll finally get around to primering it all one solid color.

Hey I live in mesa and a buddy of mine had a 76 he is parting out and I could probably get those parts you need for cheap if he still has it. Let me know if you want me to check and what all you need. For the lower grill panel and parking lights he would probably want around $20.00.

that would be awesome if you could! does he have the chrome trim on the lower grille too? i'll even pay extra for it if needed. i'd also like to take a look at it if possible, there are other things i need for the inside.

sorry 'bout the accident....but is that what the ticket was for, failure to maintain your vehicle? I would find that a little hard to believe...as it is an older truck and does not have abs and if you hit the brakes hard enough...yeah the brakes are gonna lock up but you can't really prevent it the accident...especially if there isn't anywhere else to go besides into the person. Personally if I had a choice between rear ending the car, heading into head on traffic or a ditch, the car would be the target. Some cops can be @**es and what not that or rookies, never know. funny thing, I personally saw a cop back into my friends saab...I was laughing so hard.

yea, it was something like "failure to control speed in order to avoid accident" i was going 45 like i was supposed to, then he stopped when it turned yellow. had he not been there, there was no way i could've stopped before the intersection. what happened with the cop and your friend?

Title: Re: yea
Post by: Sano on March 05, 2005, 11:41:00 am
oh...well the cop just had to pay to fix his car and the cruiser, no biggy there

man i absolutely love your truck. especially when it was that dark blue. wow, and i noticed you got the 73-80 front end, but your bed looks diff, like the gas filler and all.. is that a newer model bed on it?

Title: Re: pics
Post by: shaved80 on March 30, 2005, 09:39:00 pm
the cab is a 80, the front end i believe is 73-78. i'm not sure about the bed, it might be a different year. my neighbor was a tow truck driver, and he got this truck after a serious accident and started it as a project, then sold it to my brother before he moved. i don't remember it having a bed, so it might've been taken off a newer one.

Im sure it is a newer bed. but anyway, I can honestly say i think this is the best looking truck ive seen. Would be nice if you can keep us updated on the progress since the accident, i would love to see it when you finish.

personaly i dont like the digital guages, they look good in you truck. i like the analog ones better, you can see the power better, instead of just watching a number.
