Title: Backfire at WOT
Post by: MrFiveOh on October 11, 2016, 02:50:08 pm
So this morning while headed to work "Smurf" was feeling quite chipper in this 50 degree Texas morning weather. Got up to 70 no issue, decided why not and went WOT. I noticed upon putting pedal to the metal there was pop/backfire from the exhaust and slight hesitation. It only did it when i went WOT, if i hold WOT its great, only upon initial WOT. Could this be a cold weather lean issue? never did it during warmer weather.  74 C10 Edelbrock 1406 SBC350

Thanks

Mine had a small pop at the carb, advanced timing a little and now faster and smoother, no more pop, ever.

After talking to a couple of my club guys they are saying the secondaries on my carb are not opening properly. suggested i get a tune kit and rebuild it as well

Very well then. My advice was from the guy who installed my engine. That may be it, but its good to get a couple opinions on this site.

Of course, I am by no means disregarding your advise.

may want to check your springs an weights  "Mechanical Advance" inside your distributor......make sure they are good an clean. they should snap crisp an freely, flipping them with your fingers.
