Post by: redhot1.4 on October 19, 2016, 03:36:20 pm
Ok friends, I found a running small block 400 forsale. This guy said he would sell it to me for around 400 dollars
I was wundering how hard it would be how much would it cost to boost it to 400+ horsepower, I don't need much more but I got to have at least 400

400 wheel horsepower or crank?  What are you going to using the truck for.  And will this be normally aspirated?

If you are looking for 400hp a big block with a set of 049 or 781 heads will get you there easier.

This is my dd again after 12yrs. Of sitting.  So some good reliable horsepower, I have always wanted a 454 or a LS swap, but with it being my daily,  I need to be some what conservative for now.

That is a 500hp motor at the crank, definitely not what I would define as a daily.  This means a huge cam, huge stall and proper gearing it is going to stink as a daily and probably get 10mpg tops.  Is it going to be carb or EFI?  What trans?

Maybe back I'll shoot for a LS swap instead. Haven't talk to anyone who has an old chevy putting that kind of power down  and drives it to work. I'm getting debt free . That's why I'm driving the old chevy again.
