Title: Used Leaf Springs
Post by: kopeck on November 25, 2016, 04:10:19 pm
So what's everyone's opinion on used leaf spring packs?

My '79 BIG 10 has a fully broken leaf (broke on both sides).  It's got the 8/1 pack that seems to be pretty darn common in the C20s.

New packs are kind of expensive.  I've been told if you go new you should go new on both sides.

I've found a few used packs around for far less money, even if you factor in shipping they're pretty reasonable.  I'm willing to be grabbing a pair would be a better bet and finding them in low salt states would be ideal.

Anyone have any luck going used?

I've re-arced my own leafs to correct some sag in the original leaf pack.

I had a single leaf break on a Tundra, and picked up a used leaf and arced it to match the other side.

I've de-arced leafs to sit lower in the past.

I have no problems with a used leaf pack, and it the pack is the SAME as what you are replacing, I see no problem.  Make sure the used pack looks good, eh?  Like: minimum corrosion or pitting.

Sounds good.

Thanks for the info guys, makes me feel quite a bit better about getting a used set.

Trying to pick my battles with the truck at the moment.  Seems like age has caught up with me quite a bit in the last year or two.
