Title: Door hinge spring.
Post by: Tommyd11730 on November 28, 2016, 08:53:47 pm
So the drivers side spring is missing on my 84 K2500 upper hinge.  I'm thinking I can unbolt the door (6 bolts) to give me some room and replace with hinge still on the truck.

Is this possible or must I remove the upper hinge from the truck.

Thanks!

Are you asking about replacing the hinge or the spring.

Sorry Chris.  Just want to replace the S spring on the upper hinge, not the hinge it's self.

Also, the 6 bolts that hold the door to the hinge, are they adjustable?   Figured I would mark them before the door removal.

I have replaced the spring with the doors and hinges still on the truck. It's super easy with a pry bar. Sorry, I can't tell you the procedure because it has been years since I did it but I know it can be done. Just make sure you cover things that you don't want scratched with masking tape.

Your a better man then I am if you can change the spring with the door on.

6 bolts, a jack and a helper and my door was off.  Took about 10 minutes to replace the spring at this point.  The only disappointment was how weak the replacement spring is vs factory.

Oh well better then nothingm

I was also able to get the spring in with the doors on. It's kind of a pain but it is possible.
