Title: transmission difference
Post by: st3vomettler on December 10, 2016, 04:30:52 pm
I just recently inherited my dads 90 c1500 and the 700r4 transmission has 3rd gear out and I was thinking about getting a 3/4 ton transmission to replace it but I was wanting more information between a 1/2 ton and a 3/4 ton transmission

theres no difference in a 700r4 from a ¾ ton vs a 700r4 from a ½ ton. you will find slight differences in how the trans is build from a v6 vs a v8. you can find other trans like a 4l80e. but you would need all the wiring that goes with it and the ecm then the motors the same also. the older the 700r4 or 4l60s the better. but you dont want a 4l60e (different wiring) 94+ might find one in a 93 also.

sure. it will be cheaper and probably safer to have it rebuilt maybe $700-$900?  and you know it will be good. you can get a used trans and it only last you 10 miles then its burnt up with no warranty

a junk yard but youre still looking at 500-600. a rebuild kit (which i dont recommend without someones help whos done one before) for 100-200 then you need to buy a torque converter for 200-300. then hope you get it all right so you have all your gears.

I have another question regarding my truck what will cause it not to want to not idle and take a longer crank period to start.

700R4 has lockup in OD.
Timing can cause hard starting and poor idle.
