Hello all, still a newbie here. Search the bunch of threads, and didn't see what I was looking for so I apologize if this is a duplicate.
I have a 1987 V10 Silverado, and my memory is telling me that the tailgate used to just click shut. Now, it only closes when I use the handle to open the latches. Is my memory wrong? Or is it something I need to address. Thanks in advance for all your help

Use a good penetrating aerosol grease like GM #89021668 Multi-Purpose Grease, GM #12346241 Super Lube synthetic grease, Loctite 36786 ViperLube spray (http://www.loctite.ph/php/content_data/LT3711_ViperLube_Synthetic_Lubricant_Brochure.pdf), or similar product and liberally lubricate the moving parts of the two outer latches and release handle.

Awesome.. so it should click closed!! Thanks!

When properly adjusted and lubed the tailgate should close and fully latch without slamming and should not rattle once latched.
