Title: New Door Handles
Post by: CA Big Red on December 26, 2016, 11:47:24 am
So, I purchased new door skins, the new trim includes the strap handle, which mine didn't originally come with. So, I'm a bit perplexed on how it is designed to work. I want to make sure I understand that only one of the screws is designed to attach to the door directly and the one in the back? Just hangs out? I put a nut on it, but this seems odd. What am I missing?

So, my rig didn't come with those fancy brackets. I don't see them offered on websites we can't mention. This is a pick and pull project?

You need to look a little harder. They are available for about $15 bucks

I never paid that much attention to these on the many times I've had my door panel off, but aren't they just typical J-nuts?  If so, they are available at most places that sell specialty hardware.  They would be only a couple of dollars for a package of three or four.

I still can't find these brackets. I'm talking to a guy today who has a bunch of doors in his yard. So we will see. Called some companies we cannot mention...nothing. Not an easy part to find and I need two.

He has something that looks like they will fit. I'm hopeful that these will work.

The OEM P/N's for the brackets were 458095 (left) and 458096 (right) if this helps your search.

Good post. And speaking of,,,what is the correct way to get that small clip of the bottom part of the rod that the push button on the dr handle raises?

Do the 3 phillip screws have to come off so the latch is undone. I got the clips off and the dr handles, but wondering how to get back on without a struggle.

Part # 25

And the door panels are installed. It looks great. It may take a while to get used to those extra door handles, but I like having all new door trim. The door panels match the new dash really well. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170304/71a674b99dbcbb55140c4f5d0a81f85b.jpg)

You just start the clip on the end of the square block, insert the rod into the hole and push up.  :o
