Title: Windshield replacement
Post by: GMCMedic on January 15, 2017, 05:51:59 pm
Has anyone had luck finding an intact windshield in a junk yard or at local glass shops in the past? Im hoping a glass shop can tack one on to an order, but im not sure that will be any cheaper than paying freight.

Freight shipping is rough.

I'd call around to the local glass shops.  They may be willing to add your windshield to their stock order as long as you're willing to wait.
The green shade band at the top and the embedded antenna are worth having.

Cant beat that.

Ive never had problems with finding windshields and glass for any of my vehicles, usually get quoted about $200 installed.
Not even worth attempting a self install for that price.

Yup.  If they break it it's on them to replace it...
Have em install it with a new gasket and locking strips too.  40 years or so will not've been kind to your existing window rubber.

Something's are better left to the professionals, other than breaking one they also usually warranty against leaks.

I have a full automotive and body shop at my disposal, as well as the employees. I think we will manage.

Where in the states do you live? Was the $107 windshield American or Chinese?

I had called around here (Los Angeles) and the guy went on and on about Pilkington being strictly American,
but I looked online and the company sold it's manufacturing to China.

Southern Indiana. I really dont know if its American or not. I just called Glass Doctor and they had a windshield at their shop in Louisville Kentucky and they had it here the next day.
